Eden Mills & District Community Club
The Eden Mills & District Community Club is a volunteer run non-profit organization. We depend heavily on all the wonderful people who so generously donate their time to run the hall and fund-raise for our operating budget.
Volunteers are required for various events throughout the year as well as the Board of Directors. Help is needed for promotion, ticket selling, set up, dishwashing, clean up, baking, skating rink duties, and many other tasks related to each individual event we hold. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the club.
Youth volunteers in action!
Is it ok to pet a service animal? Should you push someone's wheelchair if you think they could use some help? What's the best way to interact with someone you believe has a disability?
If you are curious about the answers, there is an online resource available. It was set up by the Gov. of Ontario to raise awareness about the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act; it is primarily for those providing services to the disabled. Strictly speaking, the Act does not apply to an organization as small as EMCC. It is not mandatory for those volunteering at club events.
However, there's useful info in the course for anyone that wants to do the right thing when interacting with the disabled.
Here's the excerpt from the Government website:
1. This online training is meant to ensure that all volunteers (and workers) understand the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) customer service standard. The course covers the requirements for providing customer service in ways that are accessible to people with disabilities. It is 30-40 minutes.
