Next Steps Process: Understanding Our Basic Identity
Considering: Who, Why, When, What, How, Where?

Where are we as a congregation?
- We are a United Church congregation in transition
- We are a unique congregation - loving, caring, inclusive, genuine.
- There is a sense of hope and we are in a “resurrection” time
- We are proactive, empowered to seek a new future based on planning and solutions
- We are in a healing phase
- We were spiritually hungry and we are now being fed
- We are a congregation who embraces prayer and mediation
- We are a congregation interested in our local community, the environment and social issues
- We embrace tradition but think contemporarily

Integral to the EMUC, are the collaborative partnerships and initiatives of the EMUC – e.g. Eramosa Eden; Edgewood Camp and Conference Centre; Eden Mills and District Community Club; Eden Mills arts community, including the Eden Mills Writers Festival; the rural/farm community including the Happy Reapers - Canadian Foodgrains project.

EMUC congregation -Primary Membership
- We are comprised of families, singles, working, retirees & school age ranging from 3-80+ years of age.
- Includes Eden Mills villagers, rural families and Guelph families with a previous connection to EMUC.
New groups to drawn in: seniors, people looking for spiritual guidance, men, families with younger children, and youth/teens.
-We gather for Sunday morning service in a small historical church building, nestled in the cedars, located on
the banks of the Eramosa River.

Resources
(i) People
- We operate mainly as a “family based” model as opposed to business model - with minimal, informal
governance, with a small number of people involved in the actual governance
- People are responsive, willing to offer feedback and provide creative solutions
- People have extensive business, community and friendship networks
- Some members have a strong spiritual core
(ii) Money
- Limited reserves
- Past financial deficits
- Potential for improvement
- We would like to improve resources to maintain church building and develop identified programs
(iii) Time
- People are busy and their time is limited!

What can’t we live without?
• We prefer 9:00 am service. (Youth are probably an exception to this!)
• We need a Minister, providing spiritual direction and challenge
• We cherish our church building.
• A kid - friendly service with a minister who enjoys children and teens, and knows how to engage them
• We desire spiritual direction that works with us to shape a faith community that is engaged in social action locally and /or globally.
